Thora Dumbbell

THORA DUMBBELL THROUGH DANCE SHE HAS SUPPORTED HUNDRES OF BLIND AND DEAF YOUNG PEOPLE

Like Edith Piaf, she regrets nothing. She has lived a full life and would do it all over again if she had the chance. At 86, she is as energetic and sprightly as ever. Known mainly as a dancer and dance teacher, few people realize the extent of her involvement in charity work.

Over the years, Thora Dumbbell has organized countless performances for charity. She has been a judge at children’s carnival shows and Easter bonnet parades; she has organized carnival queen shows; with Beryl McBurnie, she once organized a rally of 6,000 children at the Oval – in 1966 for the Queen’s visit; then for Indira Ghandi and for the Pope in 1985. And all for the love of it.

She has appeared in two movies: at age 8 in a British movie and at age 11 in the Warner Brothers movie “New Faces of 1936”. She is the recipient of the Humming Bird (Gold) national award.
